Driefontein has been backed into $2.90 following a string of huge bets at Sportingbet Australia including one of $50,000 at $3.20.
Sportingbet Australia CEO Michael Sullivan the Gai Waterhouse trained filly was the only one punters had wanted since she drew perfectly in gate 3 at Tuesday’s barrier draw.
“We put her back up at $3.50 and were keen to take her and punters have certainly obliged in what has been a very sustained go,” Sullivan said.
“We have taken bets of $50,000, $10,000, $9000 plus a number of other bets between $1000 and $5000.
“She is simply the only punters want and over 80% of the money we are holding on the race has been for her.”
Sullivan said second favourite Sizzling had been easy drifting to $3.80 and there had been no support for Amorino who was out to $6.50.
“Punters have abandoned Sizzling and Amorino and the only money away from Driefontein has been for a couple of roughies,” he said.
Discreet has been backed from $31 to $17 with some good bets including one of $3000 while there has also been money around for No Looking Back and Dear Demi.”
